Connecting Slack

Open Integration Settings

Go to SettingsIntegrations in your Feedovate dashboard.

Click Connect Slack

Find the Slack card and click Connect to Slack.

Authorize Feedovate

You’ll be redirected to Slack. Sign in to your workspace if needed.

Select a Channel

Choose which Slack channel will receive notifications:
  • #feedback (recommended)
  • #product
  • #general
  • Or any channel you have access to

Allow Installation

Click Allow to authorize Feedovate.

Confirmation

You’ll be redirected back to Feedovate with a success message. Slack is now connected!
You must be a Slack workspace admin or have permission to install apps to complete this setup.

Notification Types

Control which events trigger Slack notifications.

Available Notifications

Triggered when: A user submits new feedback via your public portal.Message includes:
  • Feedback title and description
  • Author name
  • Category
  • Link to view in Feedovate
Default: ✅ Enabled
Triggered when: Someone comments on a feedback item.Message includes:
  • Comment text
  • Feedback title
  • Commenter name
  • Link to view thread
Default: ✅ Enabled
Triggered when: A feedback item’s status changes (e.g., “Draft” → “In Progress”).Message includes:
  • Feedback title
  • Old status → New status
  • Who made the change
  • Link to view
Default: ✅ Enabled
Triggered when: A feedback item receives an upvote.Message includes:
  • Feedback title
  • New vote total
  • Voter name (if authenticated)
Default: ❌ Disabled (can be noisy for popular items)

Configuring Notifications

Customize which notifications you receive to avoid Slack fatigue.

Updating Notification Preferences

  1. Go to SettingsIntegrations
  2. Find your connected Slack workspace
  3. Click Configure
  4. Toggle each notification type on/off:
    • ✅ New Feedback
    • ✅ New Comment
    • ✅ Status Changed
    • ⬜ New Upvote
  5. Click Save Changes
Start with all notifications enabled. Disable “New Upvote” if your project gets high voting volume.

Managing Your Integration

Viewing Integration Status

Check your Slack connection status anytime:
  1. Go to SettingsIntegrations
  2. Slack card shows:
    • ✅ Connected workspace name
    • 📢 Channel receiving notifications
    • 📅 Connection date
    • ⚙️ Configure button

Disconnecting Slack

Need to remove the integration?
Disconnecting stops all Slack notifications immediately. This cannot be undone.
  1. Go to SettingsIntegrations
  2. Find your Slack workspace
  3. Click Disconnect
  4. Confirm disconnection
What Happens:
  • Slack notifications stop immediately
  • Feedovate can no longer send messages to your workspace
  • You can reconnect anytime

Testing Your Integration

Verify everything works before relying on notifications.

Send a Test Notification

  1. Go to SettingsIntegrations
  2. Click Configure on your Slack integration
  3. Click Send Test Message
  4. Check your Slack channel for a test notification

Troubleshooting

Check these:
  1. Integration is connected: Go to Settings → Integrations and verify status
  2. Notifications are enabled: Ensure the specific notification type is toggled on
  3. Channel exists: Make sure the Slack channel wasn’t deleted
  4. Feedovate app installed: Check Slack workspace apps list
Try:
  • Send a test notification
  • Disconnect and reconnect
You need permission to install apps in your Slack workspace.Solutions:
  • Ask a Slack workspace admin to install Feedovate
  • Request app installation permissions
Adjust notification preferences:Too noisy?
  • Disable “New Upvote” notifications
  • Only enable “New Feedback” and “Status Changed”
Missing updates?
  • Enable all notification types
  • Check that notifications aren’t muted in configure settings

Dedicated Channel

Create a dedicated #feedback or #product-feedback channel for clarity.

Start Selective

Begin with critical notifications only. Add more as your team adjusts.

Team Access

Invite all relevant team members to the notification channel.

Mute When Needed

Mute the Slack channel during focused work. Check periodically.

Privacy & Security

What Feedovate Can Access

Feedovate’s Slack app has limited permissions:
  • Send messages to your selected channel
  • Read basic workspace info (name, ID)
  • ❌ Cannot read your Slack messages
  • ❌ Cannot access private channels (unless explicitly authorized)
  • ❌ Cannot read user data

Data Sent to Slack

Only public feedback data is sent:
  • Feedback titles and descriptions
  • Author names (as shown publicly)
  • Status names
  • Comment text
Never sent:
  • Private/internal feedback
  • User email addresses
  • Team member details
